Composite structures in naval shipbuilding

Since the 1950s, the use of composite materials has grown steadily in both manned and autonomous submarines. While some parts are produced and integrated into the equipment, it is above all the outer envelope that has benefited from composite structures (outer decks, sonar dome, kiosk fairing, etc.). More than 50% of the wetted surface of France's latest nuclear submarine (Le Triomphant) is made of composite materials .
