Réaction au feu; Reaction-to-fire
A material's ability to promote or inhibit combustion. Reaction to fire takes into account only the combustion aspect, excluding the emission of smoke and toxic gases.
Comportement au feu; Fire behaviour
The evolution of a material during a fire under various aspects: combustion, smoke emission, gas release, loss of properties (mechanical, insulating...).
Reaction-to-fire classification; Classement de réaction au feu
Rating of a material to characterize its properties in terms of reaction to fire.
Smoke classification
Rating of a material to characterize its properties in terms of smoke opacity and the toxicity of the gases emitted.
Résistance au feu; Fire resistance
The ability of an element to retain all the properties necessary for its use, despite the development of fire, under specified conditions...
