Odorology; human scent identification by dogs

A forensic technique used by the SDPTS since 2003 to confound the perpetrators or victims of aggravated felonies or misdemeanors, by identifying the scent they have left at the crime scene. The identification test relies on specially trained dogs to compare the scent taken from an object at the crime scene with the suspect's body odor. This technique can also be used to establish a link between two crime scenes, identify the scent of a victim or determine the role of the various protagonists in a case.
