3. Conclusion and outlook
Over the period 2011-2017, more than 20,000 scientific articles mentioning cyclodextrins have been published in the literature. Considering not only this impressive number of scientific results, but also the number of concrete and varied applications, one might ask: what remains to be done? To go along with Hungarian professor Jószef Szejtli, the answer is simple: "the number of publications will not decrease for a while", thanks in particular to the hundreds of Chinese universities currently publishing more than half of all research on CDs.
From an industrial standpoint, some areas are currently booming, such as cosmetotextiles, nutraceuticals and environmental protection, while others, such as aromatherapy and oleochemistry, are emerging or showing promise (radiology, oncology, targeted therapies, nano-objects).
