The concept of innovation is directly linked to that of enterprise. Virtually every business project is based on an innovation. Beyond exploiting their original innovation, and to avoid decline and disappearance, companies renew themselves through innovation.

The "great inventions" gave birth to waves of new businesses that developed into major industries (automotive, aeronautics, radio, television, Internet...). Electricity, for example, a key discovery at the end of the 19th century, was at the origin of many new businesses.
