3. Luminaires
A luminaire is an optical, mechanical and electrical assembly equipped to accommodate one or more lamps. It comprises an optical system, a body and, more often than not, the control gear (when not incorporated in the lamp).
It must meet the following objectives:
distribute the luminous flux emitted by the lamp to obtain the desired light distribution;
control the luminous flux to avoid visual discomfort for users;
have electrical and mechanical qualities that make it suitable for use and, in particular, ensure personal safety;
protect lighting equipment from the effects of the ambient environment and specific conditions of temperature, humidity and dust.
