5.1 Oil extraction from hydrated material

Biomass collection depends on the microalgae species, with greater or lesser ease depending on cell size and sedimentation capacity, as well as the system chosen for cultivation. Microalgae such as Phaeodactylum sediment naturally. There are two main collection systems: harvesting after a cultivation phase or continuous harvesting. Centrifugation and filtration are possible for laboratory or R&D studies, but costly for the industrial phase
