3. LCA methodology
There is no single method for developing an LCA. ISO standards allow for flexibility in assessing environmental impacts. According to ISO, this methodology is built in 4 phases:
definition of study objectives and scope,
inventory: material and energy balances for life-cycle stages,
impact assessment: analysis of potential environmental impacts,
interpretation: review of results and recommendations.
This first phase defines the purpose and objective of the study, the boundaries of the life cycles studied and the Functional Unit (FU)
