2.1 General Evaluation Method

Assessing a process’s reversibility involves analyzing the material’s path from the point of entry to its final state. This assessment aims to identify, for each step, the proportion of material that is retained, transformed, or dissipated. It is based on four fundamental technical questions:

  • 1. Is the initial stream homogeneous or heterogeneous? The initial composition determines the difficulty of subsequent separation;

  • 2. What transformations characterize the process? Chemical reactions, physical changes, mixing, or the addition of additives can introduce irreversibilities;
