3. The Contemporary Cobot: One (or More) Alternative Histories
Despite the numerous scientific articles that still cite—more or less knowingly—the work of Colgate and Peshkin’s team to ground their research in an almost mythical historical past, we must stick to the facts: there is no historical or technological link between contemporary cobots and Colgate and Peshkin’s invention.
It is therefore worth revisiting the emergence of the lightweight robot, which has become collaborative over the years. Unlike the first industrial robot and many other recent technological innovations, this alternative history – —or should we say these histories – —is essentially European.
