Team organization: specialty versus project
How to organize Research and Development?

There are two opposing concepts when it comes to organizing work within teams:

• Working by specialty: studies are entrusted to a team whose core specialty corresponds to the main scientific issues to be resolved. This team will itself take the initiative of seeking additional data from colleagues.

• Project-based work: for each study, the knowledge to be mobilized is identified, then the corresponding researchers are appointed to the team in charge of the work.

More and more often, we see a system that combines both models. You can set up a matrix organization. Each researcher divides his or her time between studies with other specialists in the same field and interdisciplinary projects.
