Even if the term "objective" has been too trivialized to be used with your R&D staff, you should tell them:

• general corporate strategy: what the company wants to be in the medium and long term;

• product and technology strategy: what the company wants to produce, and with what techniques (see the Technological Resource Management fact sheet [FIC 0224] );

• the potential contribution of R&D to the implementation...
