Pile à combustible (PAC); Fuel cell
Electrochemical device for converting chemical energy into electrical energy. Unlike batteries, production is continuous as long as there is fuel (hydrogen, or any fuel that can be converted to hydrogen).
Pile à combustible à oxyde solide (SOFC); Solid oxide fuel cell
This fuel cell, with its solid oxide electrolyte, operates at high temperatures of 750-850°C. It is the only example of an "all-solid" fuel cell, making it easily scalable. A wide variety of fuels can be used (natural gas, hydrocarbons, biomass, etc.) and converted into hydrogen by reforming. Further research is still needed before it can enter the market.
