1. Fundamental concepts
By analogy with the notion of augmented reality, digital documents can be considered as augmented documents on two levels: on the one hand, they can be enriched with information from a wide variety of media: animated graphics, video, sound... On the other hand, the means of presentation available to the author are not limited to linear reading, but also include progressive presentation (e.g. Powerpoint® presentation), real-time construction (e.g. spreadsheet graphics that dynamically change with the data), and internal and external document links (called hyperlinks). We'll be focusing in particular on hypertext documents, which are the most common form of digital document, whether accessible via the Web or distributed on CD Rom.
