Conclusion
5G NTN and SATCOM - 5G NTN for constellation of satellites

This article presents the main issues and technical challenges associated with the introduction of satellites into the standards defined by 3GPP.

• After a reminder of the elements making up an access defined by 3GPP, for the case of transparent satellites (e.g. with no on-board digital processing capacity), the technical solutions proposed by 3GPP are presented:

  • the user terminal is considered to be able to provide its location using a means of measurement external to the 3GPP system. Evolutions have been proposed to enable verification of terminal position by the ground network;

  • satellite ephemerides are transmitted to the EU via SIB-19 ;

  • the gNB provides information on uplink latency (gateway – satellite) common to all UEs...
