The cost of a local network is mainly due to cabling costs. Wireless networks offer an alternative. The wired network is now only used to serve rooms or offices, and equipment communicates via terminals. With the growing use of laptops, PDAs and cell phones, wireless networks are becoming widely deployed, offering services comparable to those offered by wired LANs.
