2. Fast Reroute MPLS-TE
Real-time applications such as voice, videoconferencing or even telemedicine have severe security constraints. It is sometimes necessary to guarantee a security time of less than 100 ms in the event of a link or IP node failure. IP routing protocols (IGP, BGP) rely on distributed convergence procedures in the event of failure, and it is currently difficult with these protocols to guarantee sub-second security. Only a mechanism involving only a procedure local to the router detecting the failure can guarantee fail-safe operation in less than 100 ms. Such a local procedure requires a connected routing mode. MPLS-TE Fast Reroute technology, based on the protection of primary MPLS-TE tunnels by pre-established local back-up tunnels, enables such protection to be achieved within 100 ms.
