4. The reasons for the merger
There are two fundamental limits to the track fusion function: on the one hand, those linked to sensor physics, and on the other, those relating to operator capabilities.
All sensors are limited in terms of the spectral range they cover and/or the angular sector they cover. For example, for a passive submarine sonar, it is physically difficult, if not impossible, to design a single antenna covering the 360° horizon from 10 Hz to 100 kHz: it is therefore necessary to equip the boat with several acoustic bases.
