As with any mandate, defining the requirements for lasergrammetry is an essential step in meeting the customer's needs. These instruments can rapidly acquire a huge number of measurements. It is therefore essential to carefully assess the uses to which the data will be put, since, despite today's computing power, it may become so large that it becomes unusable.
By choosing optimal positions, it should be possible to scan the entire object, taking into account shadow zones (areas hidden by objects in the laser scanner's field of view) (figure
