1.1 Issues

For many years, the microelectronics industry has been faced with rising production costs for integrated circuits. This increase is mainly due to the decline in technologies and the growing complexity of systems.

For example, the switch from 32 nm CMOS technology to 28 nm CMOS technology was accompanied by an average 40% increase in manufacturing costs with 300 mm diameter wafers, and an average 30% increase in manufacturing costs with 450 mm wafers
