5. 4:2:2 format serialization
The bitstream of the 4:2:2 standard is an 8-bit wordstream whose bitrate is calculated as follows:
for luminance: 13.5 MHz over 8 bits, i.e. 13.5 × 8 = 108 MHz ;
for each C

component: 6.75 MHz over 8 bits, i.e. 6.75 × 8 = 54 MHz.
After multiplexing the information, this results in an 8-bit bit stream at 27 MHz, giving a digital data rate of 216 Mbit/s.
To transport it serially on a single medium, spectral shaping must be ensured by additional synchronization coding, and clock recovery must be enabled. The CCIR recommended 9-bit coding, giving a data rate of 243 Mbit/s, while the Japanese produced equipment with 10-bit coding, giving 270 Mbit/s. Now...
