Early in the development of the MPEG-4 standard, a study of applications, the functionalities required by each, and prototyping examples was published
[34]
. The document was intended to describe the possible future uses of MPEG-4 technology and stimulate the creation of new application scenarios. To date, however, MPEG-4 has mainly been used for broadcast-distribution-transmission, although its functionalities make it a multi-media tool.
