1. Air-to-air modes
A typical airborne radar scenario is shown in figure 1.
In this figure 1, the airborne radar is installed at the front of an airborne platform and seeks to detect flying objects by scanning space with its antenna: object A flying at high altitude and object B flying at low altitude.
We assume conventional radar operation (the type most commonly used for ground-based radars):
an antenna with a few degrees of aperture at – 3 dB;
low pulse repetition frequency (BFR) or distance unambiguous, i.e. waiting for the signal from the farthest object to return to the radar...
