Turbocodes, as we have seen, have advantages in terms of performance and implementation complexity over conventional error correction solutions. As a result, they have gradually been integrated into real systems. Today, they can be found in a wide range of systems with widely differing QoS requirements. Table

summarizes some of the current applications of turbo codes.

Turbocodes are much less widely used than convolutional turbocodes. The main reason for this is their lack of flexibility in terms of encoding rates. New constructions based on block codes will undoubtedly be needed to bridge the application gap between the two types of turbocodes.
