Ada had its heyday in the 1980s, when its use was made compulsory by some of the big players in the software world, such as the US Department of Defense. In France, its use was also recommended for a time for the development of military systems, even though LTR3 has long been a competitor in this field.

Alas, its initial complexity (remember that it took around 5 years between the release of the definitive standard in 1983 and the appearance of compilers capable of handling the entire standard satisfactorily), then the absence of a competitive free compiler version before the mid-1990s, limited its use in academic circles, to the detriment of C, then C++ or Java.
