Architecture client-server: access modes to databases

The predominant data management tool in organizations is the DBMS. This software is generally used by two types of actors, depending on their activities. Internal players administer the DB, while external players use it. In this dossier, we have successively presented :

• client-server architectures, enabling internal players to access DBMSs. These architectures can be broken down into different categories, which deport the software used to a greater or lesser extent to the server or client. In the latest generation of architectures, the "rich client" approach seems to minimize the disadvantages of the other architectures;

• application models enabling external actors to access the DBs. These models are based on the integration of three components: presentation, processing and data. The players develop the application...
