2.1 Example
We'll use an example to examine the essential features of COBOL.
The program chosen as an example (figure 1) consists in creating a documentation file, in sequential indexed organization, whose records have the format shown in figure 2. PRV1, PRV2, PRV3 correspond to different transfer prices for ordinary orders (PRV1), quantity orders (PRV2) and internal orders (PRV3). A top 1, 2 or 3 in front of the values indicates whether the corresponding tariff is applicable.
