In this section, we introduce the concepts of constraint programming (CP) and constraint logic programming (CLP), as well as an immediately understandable example of the application of CLP to finance. We then turn to the methodological aspects associated with PLC.
The notion of constraint commonly appears in the discourse of the computer scientist, most often in the drafting of specifications: typically, the constraints mentioned in these specifications must be respected by the computer system to be built. Constraint programming (CP) aims to enable the programmer to use constraints directly in a program.
