2. OpenCL programming
An application written in OpenCL consists of two parts (figure
4
):
the first is written for the host processor (usually the CPU). It will be responsible for retrieving information on the available hardware architecture, configuring, scheduling, distributing the tasks to be executed and retrieving the results produced. This part is written in ordinary C language and includes calls to specific OpenCL functions (API);
the second part is written for one or more "devices" in the OpenCL sense, i.e. for a multi-core parallel processing device (GPU, for example, or even another CPU). These "devices" execute small programs called "kernels" in parallel across all their cores. They are written in OpenCL-C. This...
