1. Scripting and programming languages
Scripting languages are programming languages, designed to build applications subject to different constraints; this is why, as in [1], we'll refer to system programming languages, such as C or C++, when we contrast them with scripting languages; hereafter, "system programming language" should be understood as "programming language".
To clarify the situation, we'll say in general that scripting languages are designed to integrate software components, the latter being realized in programming languages; this architecture of computer systems as a set of components that communicate with each other is increasingly common, stemming from software engineering design methods, the need to reuse components or applications distributed over networks.
