When metal structures suffer from corrosion, whether in the form of slow dissolution or more localized corrosion (pitting, cankers), these developments can be halted by associating them with highly electronegative sacrificial anodes which, depending on the electric current they deliver, will make the average potential of the corrosion couples more negative, bringing them into the immunity domain.
