4. Long-term corrosion facies
By combining all the techniques described in the previous paragraph, it is possible to establish typical corrosion facies and their properties. In the following, we will describe some of these facies. These correspond to representative simplified cases, but it is essential to bear in mind the great variability of these facies, even in what may appear to be a homogeneous environment. This is due in particular to local variations in metal structure and composition, to differential aeration phenomena and to long corrosion times, which can favour different corrosion dynamics within the same object, a few centimetres or even a few millimetres apart.
