5.1.1 Mosquito biology
Female mosquitoes need a source of protein for their eggs to mature; they find it in the blood of their hosts.
When a mosquito bites, it first injects a few micro-droplets containing a blood-thinning substance and a mild anesthetic, enough to make the bite felt too late, then sucks up a few microliters of blood.
During this injection, it can inoculate against various diseases, the most widespread of which is malaria, caused by a parasite.
