3. Conclusion
Dual hardness armor (BDD), which takes advantage of the exceptional
properties of ceramics, was introduced in the 1960s, replacing increasingly
heavy metal armor. Thanks to the addition of a ductile layer of polymer
or metal composite to the rear surface, the major drawback of ceramics,
namely its high fragility, was considerably reduced. At the same time,
the positioning of the ceramic on the front face makes it possible
to oppose the threat with a material capable of eroding it and greatly
reducing its penetration capacity. Ceramics play a key role in protection
performance, and although there is no direct relationship between
mechanical properties and ballistic performance, hardness, tensile
strength, Young's modulus and flexural/tensile strength are all known
