Andalusite

Mineral species of the silicate subgroup of the nesosubsilicates, with formula Al2SiO5.

AOD

The AOD (Argon Oxygen Decarburization) process decarburizes stainless steels in a converter fitted with immersed side nozzles.

Bauxite

Mineral species with high alumina content consisting mainly of alumina hydrates: Al(OH)3 (bayerite and gibbsite, monoclinic) and AlO(OH) (diaspore and boehmite, orthorhombic).

BOF (Basic Oxygen Furnace)

Top-blow converter.

Slab

Semi-finished steel product obtained by continuous casting. A parallelepipedic block of steel, weighing up to thirty tons, from which sheet or plate is rolled.
