General

In the early 1950s, a number of chemical groups were involved in the development of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) copolymers. Imperial Chemical Industry (ICI) – since acquired by Akzo Nobel – filed the first EVA patent in 1950 and began marketing the product. Dupont also filed a patent in 1956 and introduced the "Elvax" product range in 1960. Since then, the main producers of EVA copolymers have been Bridgestone, Dupont, Exxon Mobil Chemicals and many others.
