Dust mites are small animals, invisible to the naked eye (1/10 to 1/3 mm), and are one of the most common causes of allergy and asthma.

Their droppings contain allergenic particles – allergens – but a dead mite is still allergenic.

They feed on skin flakes, debris and hair. However, mites' food is "predigested" by molds, which explains the effectiveness of antifungal (anti-mold) treatments on mites.

Mites are prolific: under the right temperature and humidity conditions, 50 pairs can give birth to 600 mites six weeks later.
