3. Toward Industrial Scale

All these technologies are now available on an industrial scale, but electrostatic impregnation is just one step in a more comprehensive industrial process.

3.1 General principle for continuous production

At the pilot and then industrial scales, impregnation is part of a three-step process:

  • an initial step involving feeding the substrate and metering the powder onto the textile substrate to apply the desired amount of powder;

  • followed by the dry electrostatic impregnation step to drive the powder into the pores of the substrate;

  • and finally, a curing step to ensure that the powder remains trapped within the porous substrate.
