2. Sandblasting - Shot blasting
Despite their passage over the grates and through the de-sanding barrels, the parts still need to be cleaned to ensure that their surface is completely free of any sand that may still be adhering to it. This can be done by sandblasting or shot-blasting.
2.1 Sandblasting
Compressed air is used to project sand, usually extrasilica sand, onto the surface of the parts, which are then cleaned mechanically. This operation is carried out in a cabin:
or manually for large parts, with the worker protected by a diving suit and equipped with a lance;
or mechanically, with lances that project the sand onto the workpiece, which is itself mounted on a pivoting plate.
