7. Conclusion
Compared with other rolled, forged or cast ferrous alloys, lamellar graphite cast irons have inferior mechanical properties in terms of strength, plasticity and toughness. On the other hand, these cast irons have very specific properties of use, linked to the presence of graphite, which give them a decisive advantage in certain applications:
good rub resistance,
very high vibration-damping capacity,
good resistance to corrosion by soil and atmospheric agents,
excellent thermal shock resistance,
property retention from - 100°C to + 300°C.
