2. Fundamental aspects
To develop these fundamental aspects, we will use the logical diagram in Figure
2
, which shows how a material with a small grain size can exhibit significant elongation at break, provided that no structural changes lead to either premature failure (cavitation) or a change in the deformation mechanism (grain coarsening). We will consider the different stages of this diagram in turn and compare them with recently published experimental results.
