From a chemical point of view, the term "aluminum" refers to the pure metal. It is most often alloyed with other elements, present in small quantities, to enhance its properties: these are known as aluminum alloys. Here, as in the industrial sector, the term "aluminum" will be used to refer to both the pure metal and its alloys. When the distinction between the two is important, it will be specified.
