2. Methodological coupling
The original procedure developed for the inventory consists of creating a database based on simplified physico-chemical models for the sub-systems defined in figure 1.
In this way, the LCA and process engineering methodologies are coupled, since the most important part of the inventory is carried out using Aspen Plus flowsheeting software (figure 2).
there are other flowsheeting software packages: – Hysis (also produced by Aspen Tech), but with a more simplified thermodynamic base; – Metsim, which has been studied but is less powerful than Aspen Plus.
