The following description relates to a furnace with a 14 m crucible diameter, the main example being the HF4 blast furnace at Dunkirk.
Such a blast furnace covers an area of at least 100,000 m2, including not only the blast furnace itself, but also the many ancillary facilities required for its operation, staff life, pollution control and energy recovery.
