4. Risks. Precautions. Remedies
During heat treatment, certain precautions must be taken to avoid rejecting parts. Some of these precautions are more specific to a given treatment, while others require strict adherence to the defined heat cycle.
4.1 Precautions specific to each treatment
They are listed in the table at 3 and concern the risks of tapping, deformation and thermal brittleness.
Tapping is linked to either part geometry or metallurgical problems. While the former are independent of heat treatment, the latter can result from it (excess internal stresses, cohabitation of different structures, particularly acicular ones).
Deformations are caused by high residual stresses...
