4. Process modeling

  • What we can expect from modeling

    It's a calender sizing tool: cylinder motor drive power, frame and cylinder rigidity. Above all, it's a tool for predicting calender defects: sheet profile, conditions for the appearance of defects, and therefore a priori calculation of working conditions to remedy them.

Modeling requires :

  • a good geometric description, which is quite simple in calendering compared to other polymer shaping processes (extrusion-injection). However, we'll see later that it can be useful to approximate cylinders by a parabola to obtain an analytical resolution;
