4. Modeling
Modeling plays a key role in the overall approach to fire studies. Codes for calculating the evolution of the main parameters (temperatures, heat flows, fuel mass flow rates, smoke production, toxic gases, etc.) must become predictive tools enabling rapid analysis of the risks associated with the choice of configuration (positions and dimensions of openings) and/or materials.
A major modeling effort is also focused on each of the physico-chemical processes identified above. The objective is twofold:
ensure, through model-experiment comparisons, that parameter control in laboratory experiments is carried out correctly;
benefit from the improvements made to these specific models.
