In general, polyimides are known to retain their properties over a wide temperature range, at both high and low temperatures. In the low-temperature range, for example, Kapton films or Solimide foams retain their flexibility at cryogenic temperatures. In the high-temperature range, the application range extends, if observable, up to the glass transition zone, always at least above 200°C. Values are given below for some grades.

Because of their high price (around thirty times that of polyamides), the market for condensation polyimides is still limited to high-performance applications, and tonnages consumed remain low, even though this market is growing steadily.
