The first hazardous compound is hexavalent chromium, whether in satin-finishing solutions or chromium-plating baths. It is considered highly toxic by inhalation and carcinogenic. The risks associated with the use of chromium trioxide or chromic anhydride solutions are described in toxicological data sheet no. 1 issued by the INRS (Institut National de Recherche et de Sécurité).

Its concentration in baths and the volume of these baths have consequently become decisive factors for the classification of industrial sites in relation to the ICPE (Installations Classées pour la Protection de l'Environnement)...
