1. Antivibration
Elastomers are used in a wide range of dynamic applications, such as engine mountings, bridge bearings, anti-seismic bearings... Among these applications, a distinction must be made between different types of function required of the rubber-based part:
energy absorption during a shock or impulse ;
vibratory isolation: direct vibratory isolation occurs when a suspended solid is the source of vibrations (rotating machine on its base, vehicle engine, etc.). In the opposite case, where excitations are transmitted by the supporting structure (anti-seismic supports, road profile exciting a vehicle...), we speak of inverse vibration isolation.
The principle of vibration isolation can be explained using, for example, a Kelvin-Voigt element comprising a mass, a spring and a damper...
